Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot by a man in the town of Handlová on Wednesday. Fico was meeting with his supporters in front of the cultural center, where the government was in session, when 71-year-old Juraj C. attempted the assassination.
The man fired five shots at the Slovak Prime Minister. The exact number of hits is unclear – members of the Slovak government mentioned three or four. The shots wounded him in the abdomen and damaged a joint in his leg.
The latest information on Prime Minister Fico’s health was provided to journalists on Thursday afternoon by incoming President Peter Pellegrini: “I must say that his condition remains very serious. We spoke together for only a few minutes.”
